#170: Bouba & Kiki: Fillomino

“Region” is a bouba word and “division” is a kiki word, right?

Since I made Kiki Loop a couple of years ago, the terms Bouba and Kiki have found some wider adoption to describe loop variants that require obtuse or acute angles, but I’ve never revisited the idea myself. Also, to my knowledge, no one has applied these variants to region division genres yet. So I made these puzzles to rectify both of those things.

Both puzzles are quite tough, but I hope they convey a lot of interesting insights about the structures resulting from these variants.

Fillomino (Bouba)

Rules: Divide the grid into regions along dotted gridlines. Two regions of the same size may not share an edge. Clued cells must belong to a region containing the indicated number of cells.

Bouba — All internal angles (at the corners of a region) must be obtuse (120° or 240°).

Fillomino (Kiki)

Rules: Divide the grid into regions along dotted gridlines. Two regions of the same size may not share an edge. Clued cells must belong to a region containing the indicated number of cells.

Kiki — All internal angles (at the corners of a region) must be acute (60° or 300°).
